WHY JAPAN?

Japan is the world's 4th largest economy, and in November 2022, the "Startup Development 5-Year Plan" was approved by the Cabinet to strengthen Japan's startup ecosystem. The plan aims to expand investment in startups from a scale of ¥800 billion to ¥10 trillion by 2027. Prime Minister Fumio Kishida has also committed to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 and enhancing industrial competitiveness and economic growth simultaneously. Over the next decade, more than ¥150 trillion in public-private collaboration for GX investments will be realized. Japan hosts the majority of active Corporate Venture Capitalists (CVCs), and during October to December 2023, the top three investment cases were all from Japan's major bank CVCs.

WHY AICHI?

Following Tokyo in economic scale
Aichi Prefecture boasts a GDP of $361.2 billion. Many major corporations, particularly in the automotive and manufacturing industries, have their headquarters here and conduct business operations. Since 1977, Aichi has maintained its position as Japan's top prefecture in terms of manufactured goods shipped.
The automotive industry, which supports Aichi's manufacturing sector, is undergoing a once-in-a-century transformation, necessitating innovation fueled by startups to maintain competitiveness.

The land where the Japanese art of manufacturing was perfected

Innovation has always been a part of Aichi Prefecture's culture, and it is here that the Japanese art of manufacturing was perfected. Many of the world's leading companies are based in Nagoya and surrounding areas, including Toyota, Rinnai, Brother, Noritake, NGK, Buffalo, and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. Today, the Nagoya area is a national leader in the automotive, machine tool, robotics, fine ceramics, and aerospace industries, thus maintaining its position as the economic center of Japan.

STRATEGIC LOCATION

Located in the heart of Japan between Tokyo and Osaka, Aichi Prefecture aims to serve as a gateway to the Asian market for international businesses and ventures. Compared to major cities like Tokyo and Osaka, Aichi offers relatively lower business costs.

QUALITY CONSCIOUS MARKET

Japanese companies and consumers have high expectations for product quality, safety, and reliability. Startups that meet or exceed these standards can gain a competitive advantage in the market. Japan's reputation for quality contributes to trust and credibility in the global market.

MATURE STARTUP ECOSYSTEM

Aichi Prefecture was designated as a "World Leading City for Startup Ecosystems" by the Cabinet Office in 2020. Known for initiatives such as expanded market offices aimed at supporting the launch of new businesses by overseas startups, free coworking spaces, and mentorship programs tailored for startups, Aichi is recognized for its efforts aligned with its mission. Starting from October this year, Aichi Prefecture will open "STATION Ai," Japan's largest startup support base, which has been under development since 2021.

The ultimate goal of the program is to promote partnerships and collaborations with companies within Aichi Prefecture to create new businesses and enterprises. The program includes not only incentives but also mentoring and follow-up support. Participation in this program is free of charge.
